With all of the major electronics and mobile phone manufacturers releasing their spec’s and videos 2014 is likely to become the year of the Smartwatch. In this weeks blog we look a little closer and discover what is a Smartwatch and what can they do.
A Smartwatch is basically a computerised wristwatch with functionality that is enhanced way beyond simply timekeeping. Modern Smartwatch’s are effectively wearable computers with their own mobile operating system, the ability to run mobile apps and can function as portable media players with the playback of FM radio, audio, and video files to the user via a Bluetooth headset. Some Smartwatch’s also feature complete mobile phone capability and can make or answer phone calls.
Some smartwatchs also include features such as a camera, accelerometer, thermometer, altimeter, barometer, compass, chronograph, calculator, touch screen, GPS navigation, Map display, graphical display, speaker, scheduler, watch, and a rechargeable battery.
Over the next several months we’re expecting to see the release of many new devices as manufacturers vie for the crown of the most sort after tech of 2014. Here’s a look at three watches that we believe are the front runners.
