In 2015 Stroud District Council introduced the Skills For Stroud (SFS) Employability Charter, aimed at improving the quality and availability of work placements for young people in Stroud.
Lister Unified Communications are proud to have achieved full recognition status from the initiative, with their report from the SFS Charter stating: “The quality of work experience placements is good, with a wide variety of activities arranged for students, moving through different teams and assigned a supervisor for each task.”
Lister’s currently employs 5 apprentices and regularly takes on students for work experience. “We place great value on staff development, and in forging strong relationships with local schools and colleges” explains Julie Weir, Customer Services Manager at Lister’s. “We understand that work experience leads to better, more employable candidates and that the students we take on for work experience today could become our staff in the future.”
Lister’s has been highlighted by the scheme as helping to establish a benchmark for employers wishing to attain full recognition in the future.
“We will continue to stay involved with the scheme and are excited to see how we can further develop out work experience programme. We’re always open to offering work experience placements, particularly if the candidate is especially enthusiastic or interested in the telecoms industry.”
