With the iPhone likely to be one of this Christmas’ big sellers especially as it is now available on Orange and O2, the UK’s 3G network could be in trouble.

Apple’s iPhone as well as many other smartphones and dongle’s all use the Third Generation (3G) network to get quick internet browsing, to watch TV on their mobiles and surf the web.

Now this is a great thing, however these devices are seriously hungry when it comes to browsing. According to O2, watching something on YouTube from your mobile uses the equivalent of 500,000 texts message simultaneously!

Therefore it really isn’t any surprise that with the huge growth of smartphones and dongle use, the UK’s 3G network is reaching breaking point.

For the UK the lack of bandwidth and network speed has again come under fire. We are one of the only countries in The Developed World with slow, rubbish, outdated network infrastructures and speeds.

I live in the countryside and for me to get even 2MB on my broadband is a miracle let alone the supposed up to 20MB that are promised.

Surely as a nation that is trying to forge itself as a competitive Country we should be investing in decent infrastructure and our home grown companies rather than spending millions of pounds on health and safety rubbish and bureaucratic nonsense?
