Lister Unified Communications has become one of the most successful telephone system and mobile phone companies in Gloucestershire. They also excel at their commitment to creating long term relationships with local businesses, charities and organisations. Namely their long term relationship with the Nelson Trust, the Gloucestershire based registered charity set up in 1985, celebrating 30 years as a residential abstinence based treatment centre to support people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction from all over the UK.
The relationship was started by the late Richard Lister, Father to the Directors of Lister Unified Communications back in 2000 when Richard also took on the responsibility of Chairman of the Nelson Trust alongside other charitable interests such as the renovation of Selsley Church. Richard was a truly exceptional businessman who was instrumental in the growth and development of the Nelson Trust, especially women’s services and work with criminal justice organisations over his 11 year stretch as Chairman. He helped the Nelson Trust form a volunteer fundraising committee which has grown and attracted new members from all over Gloucestershire and now raises in the region of £70k per annum. He encouraged his family to get involved by attending events, holding their own events and giving through other non-conventional methods such as services and gifts in kind as well as financial support and sponsorship.
The Nelson Trust connection with Listers Unified Communications stems further than your average charity of the year relationship. There is a real family feel which is apparent when you go to a Nelson Trust event to find Ginny Lister in the kitchen making the lunches for over 200 guests and a whole network of friends of friends attending and donating!
The last five years have been exciting times for the Nelson Trust as they have expanded some of their existing programmes and developed new services serving the most vulnerable people in the county. Listers Unified Communications also provide regularly updated telephone system and mobile phone services which have enabled the communication requirements of the charity to expand reliably and cost effectively during this period.
The Nelson Trust values Lister Unified Communications knowledge, honesty and customer service. Lister’s willingness to offer regular support at fundraising events and sponsorship helps to plan and pay for new developments and pilot programmes. The Nelson Trust has made some invaluable business contacts over the last 15 years through this exceptional relationship with Listers. They certainly deserve the corporate award at the Local Business Charity Awards for going that ‘extra mile’ when it comes to charitable support.
